About Me

Hi there.

I'm a writer and a training consultant for Rutgers University, specializing in adolescent development and juvenile justice. I'm also a musician. This site is dedicated to my creative work (and not my day job).

I'm currently in the process of querying agents for my first manuscript. It's not my first completed manuscript, but it's the first one I felt was ready to send out into the world of traditional publishing. I've also completed a monster of an urban (I think?) fantasy manuscript that's nowhere near ready to be queried. Someday it will be. I've got half of another fantasy romance written, too. I write a lot, is basically what I'm trying to say, when I'm not otherwise working or wrangling children.

I studied English Literature at UMASS, Amherst back in the day and was a total Arthurian Legends dork. I wanted to be a novelist way back then but I was too young. (I'm not saying there's an age requirement or anything, I'm just saying that I was too young to be any good at writing books when I was 19 or 22.) I didn't want to teach English, so after I graduated I went and did a lot of other things instead, some of them terribly interesting and others not.

I fronted a Jersey-based indie rock band that played from Baltimore to Boston for many years and now, years later, I find myself writing about those times with all the self-indulgent glee in the world. The novel I'm querying now is based largely on those experiences which is why it was so damned fun to write. My band is also pulling together to play a show this summer.

I have a serious day job and a family and a dog. I am a mom to twin boys. They are five now and the loves of my life, and their Dad is pretty great too (he's the hair I mean guitarist in that photo above, actually).

I live not all that far from Manhattan, even closer to Brooklyn. I curse a lot. I get told often that I look exactly like someone else I've never met nor heard of, and apparently I look like a totally different person when I straighten my hair--so much so that people I've worked with for seven years don't recognize me in the hallways of my office building. I'm currently working on all the ways I can use this bizarre characteristic to my advantage.

I drink all the coffee, but I make a fresh pot. Thanks a ton for stopping by.
